INTRODUCTION
In a complex, inter-connected, and technologically advanced world, it is both easier and more important to join forces to address the most vexing global problems-from health threats to natural disasters to climate change. NSF, the premiere science funding agency in America, forms partnerships with governments, academia, business and industry to advance the frontiers of fundamental research and innovation that underpin the search for solutions. These partnerships ensure that solutions are developed, promoted and applied on many levels-from enhancing the economies of local communities to improving the standard of living for all of the world's citizens. The Highlights below are examples of NSF funded projects that have made a difference.
